Knit-Finity

By Alice Seidel As summer wanes, I love to muse on all things knitting. We live in such an uproarious world; days come and go with little of anything harmonious fitting into the hours. We all need, we all crave our own special space, our own little nook, somewhere just for us. And that’s ok. Often we need to re-charge ourselves, plug into life’s energizing chords, to get ourselves going again. Think how time has changed. Where once it took weeks to traverse from one city to another, now we do it in just hours. The “calm” in our lives is always waiting in the wings; only rarely do we bring it out to sit center-stage. There is a reason baseball is such a long game; back in its heyday there was nothing more sublime than to bask in the aura of a well- played game with friends and family. If it took all afternoon, that was a good thing. Look at the old homes in your town, and most of them are favored with front porches. Lovely to look at, and the place to gather with others to recoup the days’ graces and to recount all its pleasures. Letter writing was once the art of the day. Being as important, long ago, as email is to us now, we think of writing letters as time- comsuming. But, in the days before television, radio, and cars, time needed to be filled up with worthy endeavors. Life may not have been as modern as today, but it had other resources many of which we are re-discovering in a new century. Even the Bible tells us that we should “aspire to live quietly, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands”. Myriad gifts pass through our lives; knitting is mine. It puts me in mind of great cathedrals; they all began with the laying of one stone. So my precious creations begin with one stitch. Foundations are what we make them. Once learned, knitting is a cherished talent; one used to create for yourself, for your loved ones, your dear friends, even those you don’t know and will never meet. Never again will you look at store-bought apparel in the same way! When special occasions drift through your life, you will be ready with your own memorable masterpieces. Knitting brings inspiration; in the inimitable words of Andy Griffith it’s “just pure gala!” If you need space and time in your life to gather in your very self, then learn knitting. As the yarn passes through your fingers, you will recognize it as your own very special gift to the world. Knitting is its own distinctive prayer and meditation; crafted by you. As you go, there is so much to knit! So many people to help, and all your handiwork given with your unique mark upon it. I once read in a magazine that “to live with history is a rare thing. It’s thrilling to know how things are put together and why they survive.” All knitters instinctively know the way to peace. It is more than turning off the TV or turning down the music; it’s in picking up your knitting needles. Solace awaits; blessings abound. Go knit, so your knitting will go into knit-finity. Carrots, Diet Bars, and Other Snacks That Make You Fatter Instead of Thinner

By Dr. Donald Fox If youre trying to lose weight, you are no doubt familiar with whats healthy and whats not. You may also be aware that one primary key to weight loss is cutting carbs. However, what Im about to tell you will go against everything youve ever heard about dieting and nutrition. One of the biggest reasons so many diets fail is that some so-called health foods actually cause you to gain weight, instead of lose it. Perhaps the most surprising culprit here is vegetables — specifically, the ones that grow underground. Did you know that underground or root vegetables are high in carbohydrates? Carrots are supposed to be good for you, but they contain high amounts of carbs, sugar, and calories. Onions, potatoes, beets, and turnips also fall into the category of high carbohydrate content vegetables to avoid, if you want to actually lose weight. Another health food category that isnt as healthy as you think is beans. Green beans are fine (as long as theyre fresh, and not frozen or canned, since pre-packaged vegetables contain a lot of sodium), but any other vegetable with the word bean in its name — lima beans, garbanzo beans, red beans, and kidney beans, for example — have to go. What about fruit? As a general rule, anyone trying to lose weight should stick to fresh food, and that includes fruit. Many dieters believe drinking a glass of fruit juice, or eating a serving of something made primarily with fruit (such as applesauce) is interchangeable with a serving of fruit. This is definitely not the case. As an example, lets look at the humble apple and its associated alternatives: 1 medium apple, cut = 19 carbs 1 serving unsweetened applesauce = 28 carbs 8 oz. apple juice = 29 carbs See the difference? Its easy to assume all these food items are good for us, since they have been categorized as health foods since our grade school days when we learned the food pyramid. Unfortunately, these assumptions represent the strong possibility that you wont be able to lose weight, because youll be taking in far more carbs than you realize. Finally, there is the myth surrounding diet bars. What could be better for a diet than these tasty meal substitutes with diet right in the name? Personally, I see no need for them. I lost a significant amount of weight without resorting to diet bars. The problem is not that theyre inherently bad for you — its a matter of quantity over quality. Since diet bars are easy to eat, they make it easy to cheat. They are low in carbs, but high in calories and fat. If you eat more than one of them at a sitting, youre not going to lose weight. Now that you know the hidden facts about health foods, go forth and diet with more confidence! Dr. Donald Fox dropped 70 pounds in five months using the diet plan he developed. Lose Weight: How to Exercise and Burn Fat on a Busy Schedule

By Lawrence Cole In my fitness consulting business, I get the opportunity to talk with people from all walks of life about their health, fitness, and weight loss goals. Whether their goal is to lose weight, gain muscle, stick to a diet plan or program, improve their cardiovascular health, or simply to maintain their current fitness level they all have one common enemy—TIME. For most of us, the #1 challenge in the quest to stay in shape and/or lose weight is not exercising itself but being able to actually fit an exercise program into our busy schedules. So how do you do it? How do you balance the demands of family, career, important errands, relationships, organizational responsibilities, and working out? I have found that there are five keys that will help you to be able to fit a consistent workout plan into your already hectic life. Commit to a specific schedule When you fail to plan you plan to fail. Don’t try to haphazardly fit your workouts into your schedule without any rhyme or reason. Don’t think you’re guilty? If you’ve ever told yourself “I’ll workout as soon as I get some time”, you were in direct violation of this key principle. In order to set yourself up for success, you will need to take the time to literally write your workouts into your weekly schedule. In order to be effective, you will want to be following your exercise program at least 3 days per week. Anything less would be kidding yourself. Therefore, right in the midst of all of your appointments, “to-do” lists, etc., should be a written plan for your weekly workout routine, so that you will never be in the dark as to when you committed to yourself to go. Utilize the weekend Take advantage of the fact that it only takes 3-5 days per week to put together an effective, results-producing workout. One trick to help you pull it all off is to workout on the weekends. One of the benefits to this course of action is that your schedule is more flexible and under your control during this time. What is also means is that when the hectic weekdays roll back around, you will only be responsible for working out 1-3 days during the work week. Keep your workouts as a high priority One of the biggest mistakes that even many people who have scheduled a workout program into their schedule make is allowing it to be bumped off of their schedule to easily. Although things will occassionally come up that will cause you to have to reschedule the workout you had planned, you must be vigilant in making sure that only the most important emergencies are allowed to temporarily take you off of your plan. In the event that one of those important emergencies does happen and you can’t make it to your workout, reschedule with yourself to make it up on the next possible day that you are available to do so. If your own health, fitness, and efforts to lose weight are not a priority to you, they certainly won’t be so to anyone else. Enroll others in your goals Don’t go at this alone. Let the important people in your life know what you are up to. Your spouse or love interest, parents, children, co-workers, and close friends will often pitch in and help you to meet your fitness or weight loss commitment to yourself if you make them aware and ask for their support. Leverage these relationships to delegate some of your normal responsibilities or even allow you to shift appointments that you have with them as you restructure your schedule for your workout. If any of them are into exercise or trying to lose weight themselves, don’t hesitate to form a buddy system with them as you move forward with your program. Don’t beat yourself up No matter who you are, there will be times in your workout program that you just aren’t able to keep it up as you would like due to outside demands. Don’t be too tough on yourself when that happens. Remember that it is what you do consistently over a long period of time, not what you do in spurts, that truly counts. Just make sure that you get back on the horse full force as soon as you can and continue to press forward, doing your best to avoid slacking off again. No matter what goals you have for health, fitness, or weight loss, you CAN fit an effective exercise program into that hectic schedule of yours and be amazingly successful at getting the exact results that you want! Don’t be Picky Choosing Your Bridesmaids-There are Lots of Plus Size Bridesmaid Dresses

By Sarah H So you already have a few of your best friends in mind to be your bridesmaids, youve got your colors picked out, youve got the bridesmaids dresses designed in your head and now youre worried about finding that dress in those sizes. You remember what it was like at prom, there was very little selection if youre above a size six which is just plain ridiculous and the price tags that were already astronomical skyrocketed with every extra foot of fabric needed. Well never fear, the times have changed, you can find dresses in all different sizes now and the best part is theyre usually on sale after the itsy bitsy sizes sell out in a flash. Where are these sales youre wondering? Try Davids Bridal for one, or look them up online at davidsbridal.com, their dresses come in an excellent range of sizes, colors and fabrics. Now that youve got the price tag down to a more manageable range, you want to look for dresses that are flattering on full figures. A slinky dress is extremely uncomfortable when combined with love handles or imperfect abs, an empire waist however is perhaps more elegant and more importantly, forgiving in the mid section area. Princess style dresses with their flowing skirts go a long way to hiding the sins of too much wedding cake taste testing. Delicate and inexpensive shawls or scarves can hide arms that need to be worked on and a pair of high heels goes a long way to making anyones legs look good. Corset topped dresses accentuate cleavage and highlight some of your bridesmaids best features, combined with skirts in layers of tulle or satin your best friends swirl on perfumed clouds of elegance and grace all night long. One can always branch out from the traditional bridesmaids dresses as well and look into saris for your bridesmaids or kimonos perhaps, which have excellent drape to hide a multitude of sins and are available for relatively cheaper prices than a full ball gown. Everyone can look good in the right outfit, dont let the fact that your best friends may not fit the classic mould affect your judgment when considering them for your bridesmaids. After all its better to have them near you on your day than to be concerned with such petty things as price tags at such a special time. Also, dont forget you can have your bridesmaids pay for their own dresses, easing your stress and ensuring that each bridesmaid gets the best dress for her figure. Dissatisfied With Your job? Stop Trying To Go It Alone!

By Doreen Banaszak Being dissatisfied with your job is a cycle, a very long and undesirable cycle. Heres how it goes: -You start to lose interest in your job. Next thing you know you start to dread Mondays and long for Fridays. Your energy, confidence, creativity and excitement feel like they are being drained from you. Then you start to think maybe there is a better job out there for you. You begin to envision what that job might be, but then you get scared or feel like it will be too much work to move on from where you are. Now you think things could be worse and the money is good, so youll stay. You seem to have more energy and you start finding things you can be interested in. Your confidence, creativity and excitement start to build again. A couple of months later you wonder why your energy and interest have dropped, Mondays are terrible, and your confidence, creativity and excitement are no more. And so begins the cycle again. You remain in this cycle because as we reviewed in previous articles: -You believe the myths -You give away your power -You put your attention on what you dont want And the final reason -You try to go it alone Why is it so important that you get help getting unslumped and moving towards work that will REALLY satisfy you? Because you have probably been in your slump cycle for years and havent been able to get out of it on your own! I was in one for 15 years. My clients on average have been in theirs for at least 5 years. Being in a slump wears on your confidence and belief that there is work out there that will really satisfy you and that you can find it. The crucial time to get support is the point in the cycle where you start to envision a better job and before you get scared and talk yourself out of it. Having the right support at this time can help to break your cycle! Support comes in many different forms. Here we will look at three: 1. Friends and family We all have them, the ones that say they are in our corner but seem to talk us out of what we say we want most. These folks must be avoided during this time because you are in a place where you can easily be talked out of going in the direction you want to go. You want to seek anyone who will just say, That sounds great! You also want to seek people who are ten steps closer to where you want to be and seek their support when you need it. 2. Mentors Clients have said, I wish I just had a mentor that could guide me. Mentors are great and we can all use them, but not until we know what we need from them. It is not a mentors job to tell us what we want and how to get it. It is our job to know what career we want so a mentor can lend us their expertise in getting it. So seek your mentor when you know what it is you want and match their skills and experience to your achieving it. 3. A Career Coach A good coach will help you get clear on the career you want and teach you the skills you will need to achieve it. They will help you to overcome your negative beliefs, teach you how to make the most use of your power to get what you really want and how to put your attention only on what you want. A good coach will teach you how to become a Career Creator, not a job seeker. They will guide you to find your right job, not just your next job. We are all very capable of being our own worst support. Seeking the right support when you have hope that you will find your right career is critical to your moving out of your slump and towards work you know will really satisfy you. Learn Origami

By Jeremy Hansen Basic folds Most of the designs that you will learn will use a square piece of paper and most will be done with origami paper, so the directions will show a colored (or gray side to indicate color) and a white side. Also, most patterns will have an arrow that points you in the direction of where the fold should go. We have talked about the different types of arrows earlier in the book. The following folds are reasonably simple. It may take a while to get the terminology down, and the way they show up on the directions, but with a little bit of practice you will most certainly get the hang of it. There are 10 folds you should know as an apprentice origami artist, but two (or three) that you should become very familiar with. All of the folds are: * Valley fold * Mountain fold * Petal fold * Rabbit ear fold * Squash fold * Inside reverse fold * Outside reverse fold * Crimp fold * Sink fold Well go through all of these in some detail, and they will get you well on your way to making some of the fantastic creations you see in origami. After mastering these basic folds you should learn the basic bases. It is from these bases that most creations are made and knowing them can give you an infinite base on which to build your skills. The main bases you should learn are: Preliminary Base Fish Base Bird Base Waterbomb base Bases are important Bases are like the foundation for a house if they arent built very well, then the chances of you building a long lasting piece of origami decrease. Practice your bases so you can make the best origami designs. You will need good knowledge of these bases as we move into the next chapter on making some of your favorite pieces. Jeremy Hansen is a recognized expert on everything Origami and author of the book “Origami Secrets Revealed: Everything You Need To Know And More”. Can Christians Bear the Weight of the Wait

By Michael Bresciani In a recent online conference meeting I was asked to speak to a group of Christian women. I chose as my subject the four reasons we dont study the doctrine of the second coming of Christ very seriously or extensively. The reasons are rather simple and have a great deal to do with human nature. The same reasons can apply to both the lack of study in the believer and the lack of belief found among people in general. Briefly stated they are as follows. 1. It seems too complicated and hard to comprehend. It can be difficult and that being so the answer is to get a little help. It behooves the serious student to stay close to the certified and qualified teachers on the subject. That does not always mean you will agree with them in every detail and they will not agree with each other in all aspects of this powerful portion of Gods word. That is not anything to worry about because some things on this subject require patience and timing. Remember some of the 167 Messianic prophecies (first coming of Christ) were still being debated in part even as Christ walked on the streets of Israel. For example, the scribes and Pharisees could not reconcile the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem when the scripture clearly said Messiah would hail from Nazareth. Jesus family home was in Nazareth and he had to be born in Bethlehem because of an edict concerning taxation. The only irreconcilability in the matter was the refusal of people to give up a mindset. Terms like Biblical scholar and eschatology make people nervous and although they may at times be quite helpful remember the real teacher (the Holy Spirit) abides within the believer. Trust the God who gave the prophecy to give you its meaning as well. If you are going to study others views be careful. The internet is filled with the ranting of dozens of second coming kooks, buffs and wannabes. Stick close to the certifiable ministers like Hal Lindsey, John Hagee and Jack Van Impe just to name a few. They may not agree in every point so just remember that we all know how to spit out the bones when we are eating a good piece of fish. 2. The second reason that some believers shy away from serious study of the last days is because they are hiding. I have trouble being gentle here because it is often the scripture itself that they are hiding behind. They quote Mark 13:32,But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. This is their excuse to leave off the study of second coming even though it comprises almost one quarter of the entire Bible. Christ admonished believers to be ready for the second coming. Mt 24:44 He also warned that we could know the season and the generation even if we can not know the exact hour or the day. In the plainest language possible, no part of scripture is telling you not to study another part of scripture. 3. A third and powerful reason Christians ignore the important study of Christs second coming is the common fear of embarrassment. We all know that there have been some who have named dates for the second coming. When those dates came and went everyone is a bit shaken. We try to distance ourselves from those who make this mistake and this is easy to understand. The remedy for this is not to associate with those who name dates. No association with them means you will never have to go through the messy business of disassociating with them. We get flushed and embarrassed when we see a guy down on the streets with a placard or sign strapped to his body that says the end of the world is at hand. Remember it isnt how we get the message out that needs to be questioned but that we get it out at all. Tread lightly before judging the methods used by anyone. Think of John the Baptist, a man who Jesus exclaimed was Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist. Mt 11:11 John the Baptist was a man who wandered the wilderness clothed in camel hair like a common cave dweller. He ate bugs and wild honey for his subsistence and undoubtedly was often found unwashed and disheveled. He called for people to cut out their sinning and he proclaimed the coming of the Savior of the world. The guy down on the streets of Cleveland or Los Angeles probably looks good by comparison. 4. The fourth reason Christians shrug off a serious study of last days is similar to the excuse unbelievers use not to believe in God at all. The lack of close proximity to the events of Christs first coming and the promise of his second coming makes people doubt that it will happen anytime soon or at all. That attitude is one of the very signs that it is near. Check it out. Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 2Peter 3:3-4 Dont worry he will get here. If you were well versed on second coming doctrine you would be far surer of that. In fact if you couldnt see that we are approaching the last generation it would testify to the fact that either you are asleep or you have studied no part of this wonderful doctrine at all. In summary it must be noted that almost all unbelief and ignorance of the second coming doctrine is due to common and trivial matters of everyday life. Jesus said, But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Mt 24:37-39 The world is to busy too believe and the Christian is too busy to see the signs of the times but the event is too sure to be disregarded. We install elaborate intrusion and burglar detection devices on our homes because we know that when we least expect it someone can break in and wreak havoc. We arrange for our childrens college funds when their still in grammar school. We insure our aged so we can be ready to give them dignified burials. We buy health insurance to be ready for some catastrophic health problem. But alas, we do little or nothing to prepare ourselves and warn others of an event that will change our world and everything in it forever. We would rather take a chance that makes not wearing a safety belt look like forgetting to buy a stick of butter. It is little wonder that when Christ described the general condition of the world at the time of his second coming he said simply, And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Luke 12:39 Rev Bresciani is the author of two Christian books one that is entirely on the second coming of Christ. He is a contributing columnist for several online news and commentary sites. How To Start Your Own House Cleaning Business

By Rosana Hart If you are thinking about starting your own house cleaning business, begin by evaluating your present circumstances. There are no right or wrong answers to these questions, but how you reply will affect what you do. How much strength and stamina do you have? If you have lots, you can schedule more house cleaning jobs than someone who is more average in these ways. What times of the week are you available? If you have a job, weekly meetings of any kind, or children that you want or need to be with at certain times, draw up a schedule of when you can be available for your new house cleaning business. Don’t worry if there are only a small number of hours per week that you can work right now. That will be enough to get you started, and you will be glad of the income. Do you want to work alone or with your partner or another friend? If you have someone compatible to work with, it can be more fun to work together. Also, it can make it easier if you or your co-worker gets sick or has a family emergency come up. There are many ways to get customers, and none of them have to cost much. Here are several: Go to a local copy shop and have some business cards made up. (Or make them yourself on your computer if you happen to know how. Office supply stores sell boxes of cardstock already perforated for business card size. You’d need a program capable of making business cards.) Give these cards out and post them in grocery stores, laundromats, etc. With a computer and a word processing program (or a poster-making program, if you happen to have one), you can make a one-page or half-page flyer that says something like: “Don’t Have Time to Do It All? Let Lou’s House Cleaning Business Make Your House Shine! Special Introductory Half-Price Offer!” Be sure to include your name, phone number, even your email if you have one that you check every day. Indicating your prices will get you more calls. Don’t set your prices too low, a common tendency for new business owners. Tell everyone you know. Get on the phone and tell your friends. Place a small classified ad in a local shopper-type paper. Okay, you will soon be getting customers. How will you actually do the house cleaning? What tools do you need to start with? There are probably as many different answers to this as there are people who have started a house cleaning business. Here are some ways to decide what you will do: Poke around on the internet. Ask your mother. Go to a library or bookstore and read. You may need to get a business license. Check with the city, town, or county, where you live. This rarely costs much. So there you have it. Why First Date Should Be The Least Important

By Weiss Bruce Imagine youre preparing yourself for the date of your lifetime, man shes hot! Is the deodorant put on? Is your hair-style on fire? How about the restaurant bookings, better call them again to reconfirm, car condition checked, money & credit card loaded, and etc. Dating is a lot of preparation and with this many things to do you almost need a project planning software! But the truth is, the dating game can be really fun and simple. Especially the first date, you see the first date is what guys usually focus on and thats the no.1 mistake guys everywhere makes. The truth is, that should be your most unimportant date of all dates. Why? Because she doesnt know you well and you dont know her well. You dont know what she likes, both of you arent comfortable with each other yet so a serious date like a movie or dinner will further separate both of you. Youve experienced that havent you? Its like going out with a stranger and no better when the dinner is finish, what you now have in your hand is her resume, not her real self. So how do your approach first date, the general rule of thumb is to plan an activity thats cheap, and flakable. Huh? Why design a cheap and flakable dates? Doesnt it show that youre not serious? EXACTLY, thats what were trying to achieve here. Now if I were to tell you that girls love these kind of dates would you believe me? Well at least Ill tell you why thats the case before you make any judgment. Girls love these kind of dates or what I can fun dates because its fun and theres no pressure on their side to commit a block of time for you, a stranger. Designing dates like that actually lowers the chances of being flaked, because the girls know she can walk off the date anytime and not much consequence. How is this possible? Let me give you an example, a date to try out a new ice cream, a bowling game, or just anything that dont need a booking or to buy a ticket. The consequence would be minimal if she told you earlier that she has to cancel the date for other commitments. And furthermore a simple date like this can be planned on the spot, imagine you’re in the middle of conversation with her and out of the blue you suggest “Hey, let’s go grab some ice cream near your house”. She’ll more likely to respond to you positively because it’s safe, simple, and short. (How long the date lasts will depend on you after you grab the ice creams) Serious dates like dinner or movies are just that, serious. Theres normally no movement or participation in the activities or very minimal (when youre sitting down eating which part of your body is moving? Thats right, only your mouth). Another reason for dates like this is you want to do something that you enjoy not the things she enjoys. Thats right, you heard me right. You must enjoy the activities and if she enjoys it too then its a bonus. The reason for this is you want her to like you for your personality and these activities that you enjoy will let you shine. If she dont like you, she wont either on a fancy restaurant and cinemas (these places greatly limit your opportunity to show her your unique personality) Of course having to say that, you will want to find out activities both of you enjoy and if theres none then you either forget about her and move on or intrigue her enough to try out some of the things you enjoy. She might like it. Notice that my advice requires that you have a life outside of your room. Playing video games is a good activity but sometimes can be limited in experience plus not many girls actually love playing video games. Develop new hobbies by going out and joining tons of clubs. (at least 2 to 5) You will get overwhelmed and in the end choose 1 to 2 activities that you absolutely love doing. Woman are attracted to fun simply because woman is an emotional creature, they need to be pumped up in order to feel attracted to a guy. Thats probably why most serious dates fail. If you dont believe me, try this. Say youre trying to date her over the phone and she says no, pump up her state by making her laugh for about 5 minutes and ask her out again in a slightly different way and shell go like “ok” It works almost every time except of course she really, really cant because of some commitment.
